April 10 - Betty

Day One Hundred & One.

Today while walking through WalMart with my oldest daughter I spotted Betty slowly walking through the aisles. She was leaned over her cart but it looked like she was just lazily leaning on it. I have recently decided to change the way I approach people. I'm trying to wait until I'm sure that God is leading me to pray so that when I approach a stranger I can honestly say "I believe God is leading me to pray for you." The reason I'm doing this is because I like the idea of communicating up front that God is thinking about them.

So when I told Betty that I felt God leading me to pray for her she said "What made you think you should pray for me?" I told her that I was walking by and my heart just felt such deep compassion for her so I knew it must be God. So she told me that she was unable to stand up straight. She was leaning on the cart because she has bone spurs on her spine all the way up through her neck. Wow!!

I prayed for her and asked her if she felt any better. She noticed a small difference in her pain but not a big one. I said "I know this is awkward but, could I pray again?" She agreed and her pain level went down again! She didn't want to pray again but she thanked me and said "I hope God blesses the rest of your day."

Gotta be honest, praying for back pain is absolutely terrifying. I think I might have more faith if it were something I could actually see. I want to believe people when they say their pain is better but... I'm such a super skeptic. Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief!
