February 11 - Nikki

Writer's picture: Summer SlovakSummer Slovak

Day forty-two.

Driving home from an awards ceremony, my 9 year old daughter yelled from the backseat "I think you should pray for someone at Walgreens!" I didn't know why she was saying that so I asked her to clarify. She said "I was asking God who we should pray for and I just pictured the big red Walgreens sign in my head."

So we went to Walgreens.

When we got inside, I told her to just leave her heart open to see someone that seems familiar. That's what I do and it's been working for me so far. She had no idea what I was talking about. lol But when I looked up I saw a woman in a bright pink shirt and knew that she was my stranger for the day. She had a little boy with her so we introduced ourselves.

Her name was Nikki and she is having surgery tomorrow. My daughter and I prayed for quick healing, for the doctors and nurses who will be with her during surgery, for her strength to return quickly so that she can care for her children, and for God to draw near in this difficult season.

My sweet girl put a hand on her shoulder while we were praying. So awesome to get to share this with her.
