July 27 - Shelly

Writer's picture: Summer SlovakSummer Slovak

Day Two Hundred & Seven.

I passed Shelly in a store and from behind she looked just like a taller version of my sister. After I checked out she walked around the corner as I was leaving so I decided to ask if I could pray. I said "You look just like my sister, if your name is Jessica then we have to be best friends." Her name was not Jessica.

She agreed to let me pray for her and told me that she'd just gotten married on the 18th of July. She showed me her beautiful new ring and I gasped and giggled with her about how lucky she was. We held hands and prayed over her new marriage. For Shelly and her husband to begin now building a legacy that would last generations. That their marriage would be full of tenderness and the kind of forgiveness that Jesus had when He forgave those who had betrayed him.

When we were finished praying, she was crying. She said that she didn't have anyone at her wedding pray over her like that and she didn't realize how much she needed it.

Here's the crazy thing about this encounter. I can't even begin to tell you how ill equipped I felt to pray over this sweet lady's marriage. The enemy really got in my head about it. It wasn't until I was walking away that I recognized how I felt. I've said it before, I'm always slow to notice my own feelings. I know that the truth always combats the lies that Satan throws at me so I sat in my car and reminded myself of the truth. I can do nothing apart from the Holy Spirit. He is in me and so it is Him who blesses Shelly, not me. My qualifications are irrelevant. His qualifications are endless.
